Descent 3 brought many improvements, such as open areas and great graphics improvements - while Descent 2 was still using the old, original engine, the third part of the series brought it into a new dimension. This game was undoubtedly one of the greatest hits of 1999. This includes the Descent 3: Mercenary expansion.

I used to own this game back in the early 2000s: It is an awesome game; very unique -- as far as I know a similar type of game has never come out since. Are there any mods, patches, or means to bring Descent 3 up to date and make it compatible with Windows 10? Also are there any mods, patches or means to give it a widescreen resolution of 1366x768?
You can change the resolution with launch options on Descent 3.exe
just use -width 1366 -height 768 -aspect 1.78
Just added a new mod added today: Silent Fury, a 5-level space-shooter campaign. If you're having trouble finding stuff for Descent 3 due to dead links, try this: Sectorgame.com - It has most, if not all levels and mods for the game.
Does anyone have the pyromania 1.2.1 mod?
Sadly dateiliste.com is gone and that was the only location on the net for the pyromania files :(

Okay, there are several Descent sites where you can find more than just mods, but the 2 places I know of to get the Pyromania mod for Windows are Descentforum.net , there is a list of files and mods for D3, Pyromania is the first on the list. The other site to go to is www.planetdescent.com where you can find out anything about any descent game and download/upload everything ever made for descent.
About the mod, though. Pyromania should be installed in the folder descent is installed in. It will make its own executable through which you can play the game. The movies are disabled when using Pyromania, but the advantage of it is that you can play through all the levels of Descent 3 with 3 new ships and all the weapons of Descent 1 & 2. For multiplayer there are 3 extra ships in addition to the 3 ships usable in single-player mode. The 6 total ships are named as follows: Black Pyro (MP), Black Star (SP), Pyro-GX (SP) Pyro-SX (SP), Pyro-GE (MP), and the Starhawk. The Black Pyro and Starhawk have Dual-Missile launching capability. I may upload the installer later once I find out if it's legal to distribute it.
Also, Pyromania, along with the graphics, works better with patch v1.4 or better.

I had forgotten how good the graphics were on this one, considering it was 1999 when it came out.
if you can find it, the two disk version works on everything from 98 to XP, even when unpatched, but i sugest going to www.descent3.com and get the double jewl fix and get the official 1.4 patches
